I’m to the point where I think that the single greatest obstacle facing the Church is her morally blind leadership. How about some moral clarity and consistency for just once?
When not trying to change 2,000 years of Church teachings and Biblical support for the death penalty, they are placing illegal migration above the very Eucharist.
No, I’m not exaggerating. Catholics in Africa risk their lives every time they go to Mass, but in America, if you’re a lawbreaker of a certain type, you can skip the Mass indefinitely. How is this saving souls?
And who can forget the archbishop who wanted to give an award to a “Catholic” pro-abortion politician simply because he supported social programs directed at migrants?
I guess tearing down borders is now the highest good, more important than protecting the lives of unborn children. In the name of Christian charity these clergy spread lies and calumny against government officials who are simply trying to enforce the law. It’s worth noting that these laws are not new, and they were once uncontroversial. They are consistent with Catholic moral teachings.
As usual, there is the vague reference to “reform,” but no one ever gives specifics. Are all borders to be abolished or just the American and European ones? A while ago I referenced a report from the US bishops making the case for more immigration. It was pathetic, using demographic data more than a decade and a half old.
Right now we are seeing an amazing, unprecedented Catholic revival around the world, yet a certain section of the leadership prefers to spend its time playing politics and of course trying to ban certain forms of the Mass rather than actually caring for their flock. Scripture is very clear about what happens to such shepherds. I pray that they repent in time.
