The dog days of summer

For much of July, things just seemed to stand still.  June was a flurry of activity, but July was just…slow.

August seemed like it would be more of the same, but last week things started to break loose and today it was non-stop action.

Life is like that sometimes.  More often, it's a bit more balanced, but every now and things seem to lock up before bursting forth in a flood.

I've been trying to practice patience, and also see out opportunities to explore new options.  Of course, putting additional lines in the water can be liability when the fish launch a feeding frenzy.

That's why perspective is also needed.  Even though things may seem to stand still time is still moving.  The seasons are turning and many lengthy delays may find a sudden end.  A key question to ask is: are you ready for everything you set in motion?

Another is to enjoy the moment.  Right now the heat and humidity is less than optimal (at least for me), but there will be breaks, and it's important to be ready to take advantage of them.

The Gospel reading this week was on the importance of being vigilant for Christ's return, but this applies to a great many other things.
