High summer

Michigan is nearing peak greenery.

Driving through the country today, I recognized the tell-tale look of high summer – the period where everything has opened up that can, the vegetable gardens are starting to produce and everything is at maximum growth.

It lasts for about a month and while warm weather regularly runs into October, the nights will start to turn cool and let us know that autumn is on the way.

Autumn is my favorite season, in part because its beauty is so delicate and unpredictable.  High summer is different – it's inevitable, and that vibe – enjoy the heat and the beach while you can – is very evocative to me.

Like most Michiganders, I feel the irresistible call to experience this season Up North.

Soon, soon.
