Unexpected Independence Day blessings

Going into the weekend, I planned on a particular theme for today's blog post.  For the past couple of weeks things had been coming together and by Friday the schedule seemed firm.

It wasn't, and that's why I'm writing something completely different.

I like to plan things out, though I know that most plans fall apart once you start implementing them.  That's why I have back-up plans.

In any event, a situation arose where I could have stayed with my original plan and been quite happy, but instead I threw it away, and in the process wrecked the entire timeline.

I regret nothing.

Sometimes we get so set in our ways that we blind ourselves to opportunities for joy – not just for ourselves, but to give joy to others.  That was the lesson of this holiday weekend.

What's the saying?  Nothing like looking if you want to find something, which is sometimes modified to note that people generally find what they are looking for.  If you want bad news, you will assuredly find it.  If you want good news, look for it instead.  Don't expect the bad news you seek out to cheer you up.

Yesterday I threw away a carefully-planned schedule for something uncertain but much more satisfying – not because I had a hunch but because I recognized that it would open a path for more joy than my plan could allow.

And I'm glad that I did.
