The big shut down

Michigan has shut down its schools, colleges and just about everything else.  The grocery stores are being stripped bare.

Maybe that's what it takes to stop this disease in its tracks.

The important thing is not to panic.  The Wuhan virus is just that – a disease.  By changing behavior, we can limit it's spread.  It's a bit eerie to have all sports cease, all the arenas empty out, and I feel terrible for the people who depend on packing bodies into a room to make a living.

Still, it's better to do it all at once then piecemeal.  It's the best chance of getting in front of things.

For those interested in a historical parallel, I recommend Daniel Dafoe's Journal of the Plague Year.  It's about the last plague to hit London in 1665.

Then, as now, there was no known way to stop the spread of the disease short of isolation.   It's available for free download from several organizations, and serves as a timely remind that disease outbreaks of this kind are nothing new to history,
