A few years back I heard a homily at mass that has stuck with me ever since.
The gist of it was that holidays happen every year. Christmas isn't a new thing, but each Christmas is new because while we've been through it before, we change each time.
This makes a lot of sense. Christmas at 8 is a lot different than Christmas at 18 or 28.
Time adds good memories (and bad ones) enriching the meaning of the day.
