Rutger Hauer RIP

I always liked Rutger Hauer.  He was one of those actors who had a few big roles, but mostly was in everything and everywhere.  He was a staple of 80s action films but had decent chops when you could give him a role.  It's hard to mourn someone who makes it to the ripe old age of 75, but I enjoyed his new turn as the grizzled old warrior.

The story is that he wanted to act but was so intense his instructor told him to go join the army and work out his aggression.  So he joined the Dutch Army and when he got out, went into acting.  I'm sure that helped him get a ton of roles where he played a knight, mercenary or soldier.

By an odd coincidence, my current work in progress features a "Martin Hauer" and one of the characters asks if he's related to Rutger.

He was an under-appreciated talent.  May he rest in peace.
